Personal Papers of Marguerite Baumgartel 1943-2003

Marguerite Myers Kerfoot Baumgartel earned degrees from the University of Kansas in 1940 (B.F.A.), 1958 (B.A.), 1960 (M.A.), and 1965 (PhD). She also served as a professor of Visual Art Education there until her retirement in 1981. With her husband, Howard J. Baumgartel, she lived in India on six different occasions, and while there did research on sculpture of animals, especially elephants and makaras.

Marguerite Myers Kerfoot Baumgartel was born July 23, 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Alex and Ruth Hall Myers. Her first marriage [Kerfoot] produced three sons; William B., W. Charles, and John R. Kerfoot, who are infrequently mentioned in her papers.
